In the winter, the beautiful peaks of the Steamboat Ski Resort come alive with skiers and snowboarders enjoying bluebird days and amazing powder. Known as Ski Town U.S.A.®, Steamboat offers world-class skiing, which is probably why it’s the hometown of more Olympians than any other city. It’s one of the largest resorts in Colorado, it’s extremely family-friendly, and it boasts magnificent tree skiing. Not all of Steamboat’s winter visitors come to ski or ride, though. One of the main attractions is exploring the beautiful mountain scenery. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are extremely popular. Thanks to the many rental shops in the area that have an incredible selection of inventory, visitors need not worry about buying new equipment or bringing their own.

The ski season begins in November and lasts until April, with peak times over the holidays, If you’re planning a trip for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Presidents’ Day, or Spring Break, be sure to reserve your Steamboat lodging early as rentals can fill up fast. Larger groups can make their Steamboat vacation more affordable and still have plenty of fun if they rent and share a private home or multiple condos in the same complex. During peak seasons, there are many luxury homes with large sleeping capacities that are available. Families, small groups, and couples can find affordable and comfortable accommodations in one- to three-bedroom condo or townhome rentals.

Renting a private home or condo is a popular choice in Steamboat because you can save money buy buying groceries and cooking for yourself instead of going out to eat every night. If spending time in the wilderness isn’t too high on your vacation to-do list, you’ll still be delighted with Steamboat’s shops, restaurants, and fun events. There’s so much to do in Steamboat that you won’t be able to do it all in just one visit.

While finding Steamboat lodging in the summer is not as challenging or as pricey as it during the ski season, you’ll still need to make rental reservations early. Steamboat has been gaining popularity over the years as a summer destination. There is peak demand for Steamboat Rentals during Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, and some of the summer festivals.

If you’d like to come to Steamboat but want to get discounted lodging, consider visiting during the spring or fall. These are both beautiful times of year, they’re just not as busy. A word to the wise, though – Colorado weather can be unpredictable during the spring and fall. You may find yourself lounging in a t-shirt and shorts one day but bundled up in a sweater and pants the next. Be prepared and bring clothing that’s appropriate for both and make sure to check that weather forecast often. Some of the local shops and restaurants close down during the off-season (they need vacations, too!), so if you’d rather hike than shop, spring and fall can be great times for a mountain escape.
