What you and your group can afford will play a big part in determining which vacation rental will be best for you. Obviously, if you’re looking for a home or condo with high-end amenities, you should expect to pay more than you would for a more modest rental. When you come to visit will also play a part in rental prices as they vary throughout the year. During peak times, you’ll see higher rents. These include Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, the weekends before Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents’ Day, Spring Break, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Seasonal events and festivals will also have an effect on lodging costs. The price of your vacation rental will vary based on its location, especially during ski season. Condos and homes that offer ski-in/ski-out access will cost more than those that are located further away from the slopes. If you want to get the best deals on lodging, spring or fall are the seasons for you. You’ll still have plenty of options for outdoor recreation but demand for vacation rentals isn’t as high, which means you’ll be able to take advantage of some great rental rates.

Why Are You Visiting Steamboat Springs?

Once you determine how much you can spend on a vacation home or condo, it’s time to look at why you’re coming to town. Do you intend to spend all of your time in town skiing or snowboarding? Are you and your group more interested in staying somewhere that’s a bit off the beaten path? Will you be spending a good portion of your time exploring the restaurants and shops in downtown Steamboat Springs? It’s possible that everyone in your group will have a different goal for their trip, but once you pinpoint the most important goal of the vacation, it will make it much easier to find a property to suit your needs.

Now that you’ve nailed down why you’re coming to Steamboat Springs, you can start looking at locations that will work best for your needs. If you’re planning on hitting the slopes, you’ll be happy to know that even though not all properties have ski-in/ski-out access, it’s quite easy to get to the slopes. Many properties are located within a short walk of the lifts. Those that are a bit further away will be close to the city’s free shuttle route or will offer private shuttle access. But if skiing or snowboarding will be the main focus of your trip, staying in a ski-in/ski-out property will help to ensure that you get the most out of your vacation time.

If you’re visiting during the summer, it’s hard to find a bad location. Just about every rental is close to the city shuttle, so it’s easy to get downtown or up to the mountain. There are also plenty of options if you want a vacation home in a more secluded location. Some of these, however, may not be on the shuttle route and you’ll need to have a rental car.

What Amenities Are Important?

As you continue to narrow down your options for vacation rentals, don’t forget to consider amenities. Are there any amenities that are must-haves for your trip? Is it absolutely imperative that you have a hot tub? Or do you really want to relax in front of a crackling fireplace? Looking at it from the other way, are there any features that would be deal breakers for you? Maybe you need a vacation rental or condo that’s located on the ground level or one that doesn’t have stairs. Depending on the diversity and size of your group, it might be more difficult to ensure you find a rental that meets everyone’s ideals. But having a list of must-have and deal breakers when you get started will definitely help you in your search.
